There’s a good reason why the CMID blog has been dormant of late.  We have been busy focusing our efforts on developing a newly crafted blog, with a re-launch planned for the end of February.

Remaining true to your essential style while constantly keeping your work fresh are key elements that work in tandem to deliver effective and successful interior design.  The new CMID blog aims to reflect this thinking.

In the interim, and to possibly to keep your whistle whet, here's a retrospective of the CMID blog’s most popular postings.  If you are a regular reader, it might not escape your attention that Charlotte admires Scandinavian style and this is reflected in the popularity of related posts.  She is drawn to its modernity, natural functionality, and often-unobstructed simplicity of interiors and exteriors.

Paddington Project by C+M Studio

The excellent Est magazine has unveiled an inspiring redesign of a Sydney terrace house.  This C+M Studio project successfully converted a small worker's cottage into a tranquil, minimalist and sophisticated residence.  This is yet further demonstration of marrying limited space with practical and stylish living.  It is a marriage that many modern urban dwellers aspire to and they would do well to take note of this high-quality project.

To round-off the redesign,  C+M Studio partnered with leading Australian furniture retailer,  Living Edge, along with artist Sebastian Goldspink, to create Paddington Project in which some displayed furniture and home wares are offered for sale.

This not the first time the Sydney-based C+M Studio has featured on this blog.  Regular readers may recall their Cross Street project, see here, where they filled the newly renovated Cross Street apartment,  with incredible artwork, furniture and home wares available for purchase.

A simple, clean and refined stairwell.

The almost clinical pairing of pale wood and white interiors lends lightness to the terraced house without any loss of warmth and comfort.

Abetted by a high ceiling and an open transition to a neatly orientated backyard, the careful use of interiors and restrained furniture makes the space appear more spacious.

It is worth noting the colour palette throughout the home is essentially reduced to white, pale wood, greys with shots of copper.  This appears to be in keeping with the style direction of  C+M Studio which focuses on pared back motifs and the use of natural materials.  In dressing up the small space, the constrained use of colour enables the house to look uncluttered and elegant.

Hanging Plates on the Wall

A meeting with a  client yesterday brought about a conversation about what to hang on the walls after her upcoming renovation. On this project we are creating a fresh take on the cottage style, where we are mixing clean lines with traditional details. I suggested to her to hang plates on the wall, especially by the dining table - a vintage idea that can be interpreted in so many ways, including by composition, colour, pattern and sizes of plates you use. She was intrigued. So after having a look around the vast world of Pinterest, here are some visuals I found to get the idea rolling.

10 Interior Tips from Roman and Williams

1. Paint your window frames a dark colour

Lifestyle online publication, Goop recently featured 10 interior tips from Roman and Williams that make a big impact. American design firm Roman and Williams is the brain child of successful design duo, Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, who are well known for their work on NYC's Ace Hotel and The Standard Highline. I thought their 10 tips were great tips and I have chose a few to feature here. See the rest of the tips here - and while you're at it, read about the cool Roman and Williams  here.

2. Flowers are the brightest colour in the room.

The FvF Apartment, Berlin

I have recently stumbled upon this online publication, Freunde von Freunden (FvF) - which is an international interview magazine that features a diverse range of creative people in their homes and working environments. It is a great read and introduces real people from different cultures, cities and artistic industries around the world.
Last year FvF collaborated with Swiss  furniture manufacturer, Vitra to set up The FvF Apartment. This is a similar set up to Studio Ilse's The Apartment in Copenhagen and the VitraHaus + Artek with Studio Ilse in Weil am Rhein - this time, the FvF apartment is located in Berlin and "is a physical expression of the online publication". The vibe is youthful, relaxed, multi-functional and stylish. "The apartment has been designed to be fully adaptable to the diverse and often unexpected scenarios of everyday life, reflecting how a creative, mobile and digitally orientated generation lives." This has also become a venue for events, workshops and presentations. Looks good to me.
